Computer
Technology is a tool that helps the Christian school to
achieve its goals of nurturing the habits of the Christian mind in
an interactive environment. For example, computer use:
- enables
students to produce high quality work;
- assists
students in research;
- allows
for greater problem solving;
- provides
motivation for students;
- increases
the types of learning experiences;
- provides
for increased interactive learning.
Students
are encouraged to appreciate God's gift of technology as a powerful
and versatile tool, and to use a variety of technologies
to extend their range of learning possibilities. A
mini lab is contained in each classroom and keyboarding skills
are
taught in Grades 3 through 8 in the computer lab. All students
in Grades 1 through 8 go to the computer lab once a week to
have a class
using the TechnoKids curriculum.
TechnoKids Computer Curriculum uses a project-based approach
to integrate computing skills into K-12 education. The curriculum
is divided into six categories: Primary, Junior, Intermediate,
Senior, Camp, and Teacher.
Each category contains a set of projects designed to integrate
a range of Information and Communication Technology skills
into student
learning including: word processing, programming, graphics,
spreadsheets, desktop publishing, applied technology, telecommunications,
databases,
operating systems, and multimedia.
Each project contains meaningful theme-related assignments
that use Microsoft applications. For example, students produce
a book
advertisement
using PowerPoint, write a report on endangered species using
Word, analyze and graph survey results in Excel, and organize
data on space
missions using Access. Each project enhances skills in subject
areas such as language arts, mathematics, geography, science,
social studies,
or visual arts. |
