Grades 1 and 2 are exciting years for our students as they continue to develop their reading, writing, addition and subtraction skills.

Students are immersed in a literacy-rich environment as they use the Daily 5 framework to foster their language skills. Students enjoy being independent and choosing their own language activities based on their interests and ability. This framework is used throughout the primary grades and allows all students’ instruction to be differentiated. This results in students who are challenged, as well as feel like their level of learning is their “best fit”.

Students learn to appreciate God’s incredible creation in Science as they explore life systems, structures and mechanics, matter and energy, and earth and space systems. Changing roles and responsibilities and the local and global communities are investigated in Social Studies. Recess time is an exciting time for the grade ones as they transition to the big playground and field. Grade 2 students develop team-building skills through the playing of sports and cooperative games. Off-campus field trips often include the Burlington Arts Centre, Bronte Creek Provincial Park, Halton Safety Village and the Royal Botanical Gardens.

Teaching Team

Teaching has always been a passion of mine, since… yup, you guessed it, teaching my stuffies at a very young age in the basement of our home. I received my Bachelors of Education from Calvin College in Michigan and then went on to teach a variety of grades in a variety of interesting places, such as Nigeria and Indonesia. While my own four children were little, I began working at Trinity as an EA. I have been a classroom teacher at Trinity since 2013. It is my desire to bring Christ’s truth and light into my classroom each day. To teach in a school where Christ is at the centre of everything we do is such a blessing.

Doreen Breukelman - Grade 1
I’m delighted to be teaching at Trinity Christian School after graduating from Redeemer University College in 2015. I am a personable, engaging educator, dedicated to my students through qualities of patience, creativity and enthusiasm. I wholeheartedly ensure learning in all academic subjects and strive to awaken within students a passion of learning. I enable character education within students through guiding questions as they develop socially, morally and spiritually. I believe that each student deserves an excellent education in an environment where they are safe, valued and genuinely cared for. I am beyond excited to put my education to action.

Natalya Geleynse - Grade 2
Hi, I’m Karen Wilson. I have a wonderful, supportive husband, and two amazing little girls at home. As a young girl, I wanted to be like my mom who was a teacher. I have fulfilled this lifelong dream and have been teaching at Trinity since 2007.

I love teaching at a school where I can share my faith and can teach every subject with a Christian perspective. I strive to have a classroom where students feel cared for, comfortable, loved, inspired, and encouraged. I believe that each child has great potential to make a difference in this world. I see it as my job to meet students where they are and to help them succeed in pushing themselves to be the best they can be!
