In Grades 5 and 6 , there is a greater focus on students taking ownership and responsibility of their own learning as they refine their learning skills and become more independent thinkers.

In this division there is a greater focus on the application of skills learned in the primary grades, coupled with co-creating learning goals and success criteria, and using varying tools and methods of assessment. Beautiful work is created when both teacher and peer feedback is given to improve learning.

Collaborative work is an integral part of this process where students gain confidence through group work. Opportunities to enhance leadership skills are encouraged through participation in chapel and assemblies. Students can also mix with their peers through active participation in intramurals at lunch recess.

Teaching Team

I first began teaching at Trinity in 2005 and have had the opportunity to teach students at various levels including JK, 3,4,5 and 6. Teaching is a rewarding position that is both demanding and inspiring. It is my true passion to be the Lord’s hands and feet to my students, instructing them, to the best of my ability, to be His servants. It is my prayer, every year, that we journey together to discover the gifts that God has blessed us with, be challenged academically, and to develop confidence in the people that God has created us to be.

Leanne Bulthuis - Grade 5
Many years ago, I often heard the comment “You should become a teacher” when studying with classmates. So when the time came to make a career choice, I found myself attracted to the field of education. After 30 years of working with students in several Christian schools at various grade levels, I can only be amazed by God’s hand in my decision. The past 18 years have been at Trinity; over the years I’ve had the opportunity to work in an environment where Christian values are nurtured, and where I could share amazing curriculum with students and in turn observe excitement and growth. Teaching has enabled me to build relationships with numerous students, parents and colleagues. It has truly been a challenging and rewarding career choice.

Joanne Holtrop - Grade 5
After graduating from Calvin College in 1991 with degree in Criminal Justice, I worked as a Child and Youth Worker for nine years in a residential care facility for children and adolescents. After my two daughters were born, I spent 5 years working as a Child and Youth Ministries director in an urban church. After receiving encouragement from some teacher friends and some nudging from the Holy Spirit, I decided to pursue a long lost dream of becoming a teacher so I returned to school in 2005 and completed my Bachelor of Education at Brock University. I have been teaching at Trinity since 2006. In 2011, I completed a Specialist in Special Education. I am passionate about finding creative ways to engage students, develop their leadership capacity and inspire within them a love of learning. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve God in a place where His name can be praised and His gift of grace can be celebrated each day.

Audrey McGregor - Grades 5/6
After touring the world, it became apparent to me that education is the key to success. I returned to attend Redeemer University to get my Bachelor of Arts in History, and went on to Brock University to obtain my Bachelor of Education. I eagerly joined the Trinity teaching team September 2015 and have already been blessed by the enriching culture that Trinity offers. I actively seek to be a Christ like example to the students of this school and bring to light the knowledge I have learned throughout my life. I am so thankful to have the privilege of joining Trinity’s excellent academic and Christ-centred community.
